Barcelona and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang enjoyed a dream evening at the Santiago Bernabeu as they emerged 4-0 victors over Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday night.
The former Arsenal man netted twice and set up another with an impudent backheel to send Barca 4 goals into the lead before the hour mark, with goals from Ronald Araujo and fellow January signing Ferran Torres on top of the Gabonese star’s brace.
It took Auba’s tally to 8 goals in 11 games since his January move to the Nou Camp on a free from Arsenal, after being frozen out of the Gunners side in November. And the 32 year old took to social media to hit back at his critics, and those who had been claiming that he was ‘finished’, with a simple tweet as shown beneath.

With his pair of strikes against Los BlancosAubameyang also set a new record too, becoming the first player in this century to score in five consecutive games against Real Madrid, something even Lionel Messi in his peak could not achieve.
5 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang π¬π¦ has scored in each of his last five meetings with Real Madrid (six goals), making him the first player to score in five successive games against Real Madrid in the 21st century (LaLiga and Champions League). Nightmare. #ElClasico pic.twitter.com/9kid3WP65Z

Impressive but meaningless
The emphatic caps a remarkable turnaround made by new boss Xavi, who took over from Ronald Koeman midway through the season. But, while the result brings bragging rights, it does very little for the fortunes of either side this season., Real Madrid still have a comfy cushion at the top of La Liga, nine points ahead of second place Sevilla and a further three clear of Barca in third.
Meanwhile, Barca are having to mount a Europa League challenge owing to their awful start to the season, whilst Madrid have a Champions League quarter-final to look forward to against reigning champions Chelsea.
The power shift is not complete, but on the basis of this performance, it could be coming.
