Arsenal set to reignite summer interest in Arthur Melo following January loan failure

Arsenal are reportedly set to re-ignite their interest in Juventus player Arthur Melo this summer, after having a January approach for the turned down.

The Gunners were keen to take the Juventus man on loan for the remainder of the season to provide cover for Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, both of whom were away at the time of the approach.

However, Juventus turned down the offer, despite Arthur reportedly being keen on the move himself. The Old Lady were willing to accept a deal that saw an 18 month loan trake place followed by an option or obligation to buy the Brazilian, but Arsenal were unwilling to accept such a deal.

As a result, Arthur remained in Turin.

Arsenal to reignite interest

However, according to Italian site CalcioMercato, he could be pitching up in north London this summer, as the Guns are reportedly willing to rekindle their interest in the group as they search for additions to their currently threadbare squad.

Having added Denis Zakaria to their side, Max Allegri is still on the hunt for midfield reinforcements for the old lady, and as a result would be happy to see the likes of Adrien Rabiot, Aaron Ramsey and even Arthur leave the club if suitable replacements could be found.

Whether the Gunners, who turned their nose up at a potential longer loan in January, would be willing to pay the asking price set on Arthur remains to be seen, with the Brazilian having arrived for 72 million euros in 2020 and still having 3 years to run on his contract come the summer.
